Corr Appointed to Serve on Special Committee Considering Tax Reform
6/28/2017
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Michael Corr (R-Montgomery) this week was appointed to serve on a new House subcommittee tasked with reviewing the Commonwealth’s tax policies, identifying their effect on residents across Pennsylvania and recommending changes and improvements.

He’s eager to start the work and believes his more than 30 years of private-sector experience as a certified public accountant and lawyer will be an asset as the subcommittee makes policy recommendations that will have a direct impact on Pennsylvania taxpayers.

“I plan to use my real-world experience to help shape tax policy in a way that will benefit Pennsylvanians,” Corr said. “Our Commonwealth’s tax laws should be fair, reasonable and competitive. I’m excited to get to work with my colleagues on this new subcommittee.”

Prior to taking office in January, Corr served as a senior manager at a large financial services firm that partnered with 30 states to help families save for higher education through 529 college savings plans. He also served as a private practice attorney where he helped families and employers with legal matters and tax planning issues. He has experience working as an audit and tax compliance specialist with major accounting firms that provided services to Fortune 500 companies, small businesses and individuals.

The new body was created as a subcommittee of the House Finance Committee. Corr serves on the Finance Committee. He was one of the nine representatives appointed to serve on the Subcommittee on Tax Modernization and Reform.

Corr was appointed by House Finance Committee Chairman Bernie O’Neill (R-Bucks). The subcommittee, which was created through the approval of House Resolution 327, consists of five Republicans and four Democrats.

The subcommittee is tasked with holding hearings, calling witnesses and taking testimony across Pennsylvania. It also is tasked with submitting a report to the Finance Committee and the House of Representatives by Nov. 30, 2018.

“While it can often sound less than exciting, tax policy directly affects the wallets of taxpayers as well as the economy of our Commonwealth,” Corr said. “I’m honored to be appointed to this new subcommittee and eager to begin this important work.”
